Captivating. Empowering. Encouraging. Powerful! Are only a few words that can describe the feelings this film is sure to give you! Jennifer Hudson stars as Winnie Mandela, ex wife of South Africa’s First Black President Nelson Mandela from 1994 to 1999.

A little back History :
During his term his focus was on dismantling the legacy of apartheid through tackling institutionalized racism, poverty ,inequality, and fostering racial reconciliation. As well as served as an African nationalist and democratic socialist, he served as the President of the African National Congress (ANC) from 1991 to 1997. Internationally, Mandela was the Secretary General of the Non-Aligned Movement from 1998 to 1999.” While working as a lawyer , he was repeatedly arrested for seditious activities and, with the ANC leadership, was prosecuted in the Treason Trial from 1956 to 1961 but was found not guilty. Although initially committed to non-violent protest, in association with the South African Communist Party he co-founded the militant Umkhonto we Sizwe (MK) in 1961, he lead a bombing campaign against government targets. and in 1962 was arrested and convicted of sabotage and conspiracy to overthrow the government, and sentenced to life in prison. Mandela served 27 years in prison, first on Robben Island, and later in Pollsmoor Prison and Victor Verster Prison. After an International campaign was launched for his release and granted in 1990 amid escalating civil strife, he released an autobiography and went on to later create history, by becoming elected First Black African President.

This movie shows how he and his then Wife Winnie met and how she too became invested in his vision and journey for freedom, and even shows her continued fight while he was incarcerated leading to her own as well. Winnie Mandela the movie will show the strength and determination of a woman who against all odds, persevered and Continued to fight for what she and her husband believed in. Freedom for People. Such an inspiring story!
