I know , we are all so excited to begin our NEW healthy Rituals so many have been talking about, whether it be juicing, clean eating, working out more frequently and consistently, going vegan, vegetarian , pescetarians( follow similar lifestyle of vegetarians , with a few exceptions) or all of the above. However there are some steps you should all do before jumping in head first! It is so important to prepare your body for any new lifestyle adaption, whether it be consulting with your doctor if you are on medications as well as detoxing your body among other things, depending on your health and your current routines. You must detox! What is a detox and why ? Well its pretty simple. You ever wonder why diets don’t last? For one I never think of new healthy lifestyles as a diet, because its temporary. Normally people diet to obtain a certain goal health and fitness wise and once its obtained they are back to their old habits of eating and lack of exercise. This causes the body weight to fluctuate and body organs to gain stress, causing most times delayed or quick health issues. Detoxing cleans out the internal organs of all build up, and undigested foods that are needed to be released so your new health routine will actually be successful. In return it gives your body time to adjust. Which is why most see results faster or more consistent than other’s, because no matter how good you try to eat and how much you exercise, if your body is still filled with all these old backed up foods and toxins it will be much harder for you to adjust. Think of it like a refrigerator that is filled with foods that need to be thrown out, you go to store to purchase new items, well the space is full, so you have to get rid of unused, expired or unnecessary items to make room. Its the same as your body. Below are some tips on how to begin a detox, of course you can do what feels better for you, these are just some tips to help KICK START it into gear!
- Get Hydrated (You will need to drink tons of water, lemon water is awesome for detox)
- Start eating more lighter, clean foods, such as vegetables, fruits, soups ( low to no sodium) salads, juicing etc. No heavy foods, no sodas. ( See below chart of foods that help speed up your metabolism)
- Start training your mind to prepare for your new routine as a LIFESTYLE CHANGE oppose to
DIET.( Diets aretemporary, lifestyle changes are more consistent. - Set Monthly Weekly Goals for healthy lifestyle change, Not just weight wise but also regarding foods, example, week 1 goal oppose to drinking 3 sodas drink 2 then week 2 drink 1, then finally week three none. I have found when i see the goals i have set for myself it makes it SO MUCH easier to hold myself accountable for following through.
3/5 Days is sufficient, some go 7 days on detox, but again listen to your body, 3/5 no more than 7 days is usually how long I go. During this process you will begin to see results in your skin, mood, And overall body! Im excited for you and I’m rooting for you!! Remember small changes develop long lasting results as well! Don’t be so hard on yourself if after day 3 you are still struggling, remember its a lifestyle change, so it will be a constant routine, it takes time to adapt.
